Graham Parker Live! Alone in Kansas City

Thursday an enthusiastic crowd at Kansas City’s Knucklehead’s enjoyed a solo performance by British singer/songwriter Graham Parker. He came out with a fedora, dress jacket, acoustic guitar and harmonica sharing the stage with images of himself and his late 70s band of pub rock all stars the Rumour. Touring in support of his latest album “Last Chance to Learn the Twist” he pulled out a variety of songs going back to “Stick with Me,” including mid 80s charting “Get Started Start a Fire” and new songs like “Lost Track of Time.” He joked with the audience about reading Barbra Streisand’s memoir (I confess I’m doing the same currently) and teased an appearance in a documentary featuring session musician legend Nicky Hopkins (who played on one of Parker’s albums without the Rumour). Confessing he had a pinched nerve which affects his strumming hand he still provided backing to his strong vocals. It was also a plus that Parker thought Knucklehead’s venue sound had been the best he’d experienced the entire tour. If he comes to your town make a point to see him.
