Rest in power, Dwight Twilley

Oklahoma rock singer/songwriter Dwight Twilley died Wednesday after suffering a stroke while driving. I met him some years ago when he did a record store appearance promoting a performance at Knucklehead’s in Kansas City. Along with school mate and band member Phil Seymour he is considered a power pop icon and he was a Shelter Records recording artist along with future rock legend Tom Petty, JJ Cale, The Gap Band and the record label’s co-owner Leon Russell. Dwight Twilley Band’s “I’m On Fire” was a Top 20 hit in 1975 and he had a solo hit in 1984 with “Girls.” His death is bittersweet with the news that he’s to be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame early next year. Sincerely thinking of Dwight’s widow (and co-manager) Jan, their dog Scout and his daughter Dionne.
